New Council Secretary Pays Courtesy Call on Chief Musokotwane, Calls for Strong Traditional–Local Government Collaboration
Kazungula Town Council’s new Council Secretary, Mr. John Machai paid a courtesy call on Chief Musokotwane this morning, reaffirming the local authority’s commitment to inclusive, people-centred development anchored on strong partnerships with traditional leadership.
During the meeting, Mr. Machai emphasized that meaningful and sustainable development can only be achieved through close collaboration between the local authority and Royal Highnesses, who remain the custodians of culture, land, and the people at grassroots. He noted that chiefs play a critical role in guiding development priorities within their chiefdoms and ensuring that interventions truly respond to the needs of communities.
The Council Secretary stated that Kazungula Town Council will closely consult and seek advice from the Royal Highnesses on developmental matters, with the aim of understanding their priorities on how and where development should be delivered. He underscored that such collaboration will help the local authority effectively reach communities, improve service delivery, and strengthen accountability.
Mr. Machai further highlighted that local authorities are agents of change, but can only fully fulfill this role with the support and guidance of traditional leaders, who provide a vital link between government institutions and the people they serve. He said the Council is keen on creating strong and lasting linkages between the local authority and communities through the Royal Highnesses, to ensure that development is inclusive and well-coordinated.
In response, Chief Musokotwane warmly welcomed Mr. Machai to the district and expressed appreciation for the gesture of engagement and respect shown by the new Council Secretary. The Chief indicated that he looks forward to a cordial and productive working relationship with Kazungula Town Council and assured the local authority of the chiefdom’s full support in advancing development for the benefit of the people.
